Usually this card depicts a woman, clothed or naked, kneeling in front of a body of water. She also holds two jugs in her hands, but the water does not flow from one to the other, as on the Temperance card (XIV), but pours into the body of water or onto the ground. Around her is a picturesque area; in the distance, a songbird sits on a tree. The sky is clear, one large and seven small stars are visible in it, each with eight rays.

The woman's feet do not touch the ground, and she herself does not cast a shadow. Having fallen asleep in one world, she woke up in another: in order to reach it, she did not need either effort or wings. She has not yet understood what force brought her here, to the land of her dreams and fantasies, but she guesses about the existence of this force: after all, the eight stars above her head are connected with the eighth card — the card of Power. Power overflows the woman who has finally reached the desired goal, the promised land — but it turns out that it does not need it, and the miraculous power is wasted: the water aimlessly flows into an already full reservoir or into an insatiable land.

And only a flowering tree and a songbird show that in fact not everything is lost: what was given, albeit imperceptibly, not immediately, in a different form, but returns.

Sometimes this card is also called the Star of the Magicians, symbolizing the unity of the planets, elements and other forces of nature; however, according to tradition, the Star of the Magicians is considered to be not eight-pointed, but seven-pointed. The eighth ray reminds us of the mystical relationship between the sign of Aquarius and the sign of Scorpio, the symbol of love and death: Aquarius creates, while Scorpio realizes. He realizes only a thousandth of the plans and hopes of Aquarius, but he bestows immortality upon them.

The young woman in the card is pouring out water, representing life force, returning it to the earth, the stars above her head pouring their power into it. This is the beginning of transformation: the stars above her are doing what she is doing, because she is beginning to become what they are. It is an excellent example, although it carries a slightly different message than the Magician: “as above, so below.”

The young woman in the Tarot Star card represents eternal youth and true beauty. The stars above her symbolize the potential to achieve your goal and, equally important, the true understanding of that goal — what it should be. The water in the stream symbolizes serenity (more than patience), born of the knowledge that you will overcome all obstacles. A generous portion of her knowledge and her power is returned to the earth to revive that from which she arose. And, just as a seed needs time to germinate and become a plant, so the Star does not immediately show its fruitful action. In traditional Tarot, the Star was in most cases considered one of the three guardian angels, promising a favorable outcome to any planned undertaking.
